Healthy Habits Nourish Me.

In mid-February as I continued working with the mantra head up, heart open I noticed my journal began spilling over with gratitude.  In waking up each day thinking head up, heart open, I was more receptive to the good.  I’m not about feeding myself or others a good vibes only line, but coming at each day with a fresh, positive mindset – well there is something to it.

And so it becomes how do we respond to the crap.  My home state of Texas was devastated with a winter storm and I was furious with the failed systems, but I kept seeing the lifted hearts.  My parents were able to stay in a hotel overnight and still receive their second dose of vaccine on schedule.  My brother’s home has a generator and they were able to give friends a warm place to stay.  I saw friends and activists raising money, delivering supplies, and coming together.

Many continue to suffer in Texas and more aide, more relief, and more opportunity are necessary.  If you are in a place to help, please do.  I gave to Powered by People statewide efforts, but if you have a connection in a particular county search for their food bank or mission and give.

For March, I am challenging myself and you to elevate your healthy habits.  And I don’t mean go on a diet and workout every day.  I mean healthy habits that nourish our mindsets, our ability to move in this world, and touch us deep in our souls.  Habits that will build from last month’s efforts.

The healthy habits need not be new or fancy.  Call upon the habits that will make life smoother.   The healthy habits I will nourish myself with this month include heart healthy exercise, adequate sleep, attention to nutrition, connecting with friends, and quiet space for myself.  Again, these are not revolutionary.  Keep it simple.  I encourage you to write down your own healthy habits that will nourish you this month.  Make a calendar and write down the habit you highlight each day.

Much of the motivation to feed myself these healthy habits is so that I can be better for others. It’s so I have energy for my children, empathy for people in need, and continued joy and motivation to share with each of you in the Be You Hub.So this month is all about that oxygen mask reminder – put it on yourself first.Let’s do this.
