Pause

It’s been quite a while since I dropped into the blog.  I am currently sitting in my sunroom enjoying the beautiful light and thankful that we made the decision to make this a four-season room.  The AC is much needed today.

I have been happily buzzing along in life over the past couple of seasons.  I just finished out my first academic year of teaching middle and high school students at Fusion Academy DC.  I have truly embraced and loved this career transition.  The school model offers much flexibility for students and teachers alike.  As the resident PE teacher, the bulk of my classes center around personal fitness, yoga, health, and wellness.  I have the opportunity to dig in with each student and tailor the class to their interests.  I’ve crafted full boxing and weight training courses for some and introduced the Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita to others.  I’ve taught power yoga one day and yoga nidra the next.  We’ve found ways to talk about health that go far beyond the food on one’s plate.  I’ve watched kids implement breathing practices and journal exercises that have given them more meaning and control in their days.  It’s the coolest thing.

And I even get to break out of my PE box from time to time.  I had a tutoring course with a student that was all about enhancing a desire for reading.  Once I learned the student was enthralled by successful people, we geeked out together by reading biographies on Steve Jobs and other entrepreneurs.  I also dusted off my college Government degree to indeed teach Government.

It was a great first year in the K-12 system and I look forward to returning in a few short weeks.  And that’s a bit of why I’m popping in right now.

Throughout last year, I kept up my public teaching schedule much of the way as well.  I taught online through the end of 2022 and continued classes at Breathing Space through July.

But as I look ahead to the coming school year, I’ve decided to take a pause from public classes.  I’m not sure how long of a pause it’ll be.  Maybe a few months, maybe longer.

I reflected and realize I’ve been teaching public yoga and fitness classes for a solid 20+ years!  I took exactly one month off after giving birth to my first child and two months after my second.  This will be the third pause with no specific return timetable.  As I approach a new school year for myself and with kids headed to 7th and 2nd grade, it’s what I most wanted.

So that’s the news.  I miss seeing each of your faces on a regular basis, and please do send me a reply and let me know how you are doing.  Remember my youtube classes are plentiful, free, and always available.  If you take a class leave a comment or send me an email.  The love notes never cease to make my day.
