A Time to Share
In January 2012, Random House mailed a book to my yoga studio titled Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain. An enclosed note asked me to read and if interested share the book with our yoga community. I was immediately taken with the title and began devouring the book. My husband Jason hardly needed to read the book for himself as each evening for a few weeks I would pull out the book and read to him the most interesting tidbits I'd found that day. As requested I began sharing Quiet with just about anyone that would listen to me, urging each to read the book. My students likely thought I'd never get off my Quiet theme for class. For extroverts its the perfect view into my world, and for introverts the reminder that when we do decide to share ourselves good things likely follow.
Sharing is, to say the least, not the easiest thing for an introvert to do. And so when I first sat down to write my blog I told only one person, Jason. At that time I created alias names for our blog reality. We were Elizabeth, Jacob, Jane and Bruno (now back edited). I knew with certainty I needed this forum for myself, and as we've marched slowly through our Polar Vortex Winter of 2014, I've decided sharing my writings could be significant for others as well. Because we are all so unique and yet the joys, strife, triumphs, etc. so related.
And so it is my time to be brave, to lean in, to share.
