The Pandemic Thaw

I started hearing this phrase “the pandemic thaw” a few weeks back, and its slowly invaded my daily thoughts.  The Covid-19 pandemic is certainly not over and yet we are no longer in the thick of it.  Most of us are beginning to add in various “normal” activities that were put on pause for a full year.

We attended a family wedding in mid-June where we were gathered with more people in one evening than I’d probably collectively seen in most of the year prior.  Besides the vaccination / negative test guidelines asked of all guests it was an incredibly normal and joyful affair.  But just six weeks prior to that we were at another family wedding where all were noticeably more guarded – we were all still on the frozen side of thaw.

These days I feel pretty well thawed for small social events.  I’m happy to head to a restaurant or gather with a small group of friends, but the pandemic having fed my introvert tendencies I’m noticeably more exhausted after each gathering and need more home refuge.

And then I’ve got a bit of an opposite thing happening with teaching online.  I started freezing back up.  When I launched the Be You Hub in November 2020, I encouraged us to lean into connecting in the online format.  I built in specific “be connected” and “be inspired” tools for this support.

Now I want the “be connected” and “be inspired” elements to return to natural in-person gatherings.  I want to sit in a coffee shop or meet up in the park to share and discuss the mundane and the extraordinary moments.  That means those pieces won’t have as much billing in the Be You Hub, though they still get thread through blog, newsletters, etc.

I want to re-shape the Be You Hub as a bit more of a personal respite and refuge.  I never want you to think of it as another zoom meeting or obligation.  Your movement practice should be nourishing.  Over the coming two months (July & August), I’ll be phasing out some livestream classes and phasing in more on demand only classes.

This is already how most of the membership is using the hub.  You’ll keep pressing play on classes that fit your mood and routines.  And I’m digging back into previous recording to re-label and categorize so that’s even easier to do (you’ll already see a unique playlist now with archived classes from guest teachers).

But don’t worry, there are still plenty of livestreams happening in July.  I’m keeping the classes with most regular attendance and I’ve added Triple B back to livestream.  The full calendar is up now.  You will notice I’m taking some needed time away to visit my family in Texas from July 4-13.  Thank you for honoring this time as a full break – no livestream or new recorded content during that time.

My desire is to have a Be You Hub that makes it through the pandemic thaw for those who want to continue an at home yoga and fitness routine.  I will continue offering quality classes as long as folks stick around.

I also want to leave space for me and for you to get back to in person classes from time to time.  I haven’t figured out what that will look like yet.  One way to make that happen is booking a private or small group training session with me.  Reach out and let’s start that conversation.

And as we shift and thaw keep being you.

Peace,

Betsy
