Certified Personal Trainer
When I launched the Be You Hub I added the fitness class y’all know as Triple B. I’ve always encouraged yoga students to cross train for life so maybe it didn’t seem like too much of a leap to some, but for me it was.
Creating and teaching Triple B has been a welcome challenge. It was important to me that I was legit and that I didn’t half ass this. So as I wrote lesson plans, practiced, and journaled about how to improve, I also began an online course through the National Council on Strength and Fitness to become a Certified Personal Trainer.
I had started researching various courses and paths last Fall but knowing the volume of study needed I pushed it aside thinking it had to wait until I had more time. And then in January I saw my fellow yoga teacher and friend Elina had just passed the exam. She has a toddler at home and she did it! Seeing Elina do that so inspired me and I started studying that same week.
I set my ambitious study schedule and kept at it for awhile before I lost my way. I let the material sit and lost some motivation. I’d hit another down health spell, we were trying to buy a home, preparing to move, covid transitions, etc. I put studying on hold and even put Triple B on hold for a couple of months.
But cycles being cycles, I found my way back and as I recommitted to my own health goals (I have some nuggets to share on this for a future post), I doubled my study efforts and was ready to take the damn exam.
And I passed with flying colors (we can call a B++ flying colors – right?). Turns out I really do know my stuff. Validation.
I’ve known for a very long time that when I am in touch with my body, I am healthier in mind, body and soul. My spirit has a place to soar. I’ve long understood that it is a lifeline for each individual. The body does indeed keep the score and I love being in a part of a profession that uses the body to work with and through challenges and traumas and aide one’s creativity, one’s intellect, one’s daily function, one’s drive.
Big thank you to the students, the yoga teachers, the fitness trainers, the therapist that have aided me - looking forward to continuing the journey with another certification tacked to the end. Hurray to continued education and challenges. Next up, I’ve got a Sports Nutrition Coach exam in two short weeks. And then I’ll take a mini study break!
